Respondus Lockdown Browser
Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the digital testing environment while students take a Quiz or Assessment in D2L Brightspace. Students with access to a personal device with a web camera who need to complete testing or placement testing using Respondus should use their personal device. Chromebooks are compatible with Respondus and require a Chrome Extension to be added.
Students cannot take an assessment that requires Lockdown Browser or Respondus Monitor from a lab computer at Millersville. Using the Respondus software requires administrative access to the device for installation, which the lab computer will not allow.
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Use Respondus's own Lockdown Browser: The Student Experience support page for a guide to installing it on your personal device.
Lockdown Browser requires students to initially download and install both Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor software. On subsequent exams where Lockdown Browser has been enabled, the application will be triggered as part of the assessment process.
Technical Support and Help For Respondus LockDown Browser
The Respondus Help Center is available within LockDown Browser itself and is there to help students troubleshoot technical issues (webcam, microphone, internet connection, etc.) and get technical assistance. Students with technical issues need to reach out to the Respondus Support team and not the Millersville IT Help Desk.
Students in need of a device
The Library has a limited number of iPads and loaner laptops available for students who do not have a computer or other device that is compatible with Respondus. Students should contact the Library Circulation Desk to check current availability. You can also check for the availability of these iPads and laptops by visiting the library's catalog: https://sshelco-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/f/1ad2oqk/01SSHELCO_MILLRSVL_ALMA216150800…
Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a remote proctoring solution intended for fully online classes that requires students to use a webcam and device audio, verifies your identity, checks your test-taking environment, and uses facial recognition technology. Students will need to download the Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor install package the first time they are required to take an assessment where Monitor is required. On subsequent exams/assessments where Lockdown Browser has been enabled, the application will be triggered as part of the assessment process on your device.
Using Respondus Monitor requires students to initially download and install both the Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor software. On subsequent exams where Respondus Monitor has been enabled, the application will be triggered as part of the assessment process.
