As technology continues to shape education and evolve, old technologies are being phased out, along with their service updates and help documentation by companies. As a result, those old technologies are being replaced from the classrooms at Millersville. IT is phasing out outdated classroom computers and introducing a Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) initiative to classroom podiums, already done in Stayer, and now recently completed in McComsey.

How the classroom technology environment is evolving:

  • Built-in computers have been removed from Stayer and McComsey classroom teaching stations, with more campus buildings to follow in the future.
  • Faculty and instructors will need to bring a laptop to the classroom for teaching
  • All classrooms will provide HDMI and USB-C connections (images below) — no dongles are required.
    • Mac devices will have only USB-C inputs.
    • Windows devices will have USB-C and HDMI inputs.

Stayer 235 and Stayer MPR will continue to have a permanent computer in the teaching station due to the large number of guests who use the space. It will be a Windows-only computer.

Stayer 237 will continue to have a permanent computer in the teaching station due to the large number of guests who use the space. It will be a Mac-only computer.

Can I bring personal devices when teaching in the classroom?

YES, you can bring personal devices and laptops to use for teaching in the classroom. Remember to connect them to Marauder Wifi.

Connect to the 'Marauder' wifi network, whether you are on a personal or MU-supervised laptop.

Why BYOD?

  • Enjoy enhanced flexibility, consistent connections in classrooms, and better access to your files
  • Newer, updated software (ex. Windows 11) on faster, newer IT-supervised laptops or your own up-to-date devices
  • Reduced disruptions and reliance on external storage
  • Consistent devices across campus will help with troubleshooting issues

How do I care for your MU-supported laptop or personal laptop?

  • When not in use, your laptop should be turned off or in sleep mode.
  • Utilize the sturdy and padded laptop bag provided with your MU laptop when transporting your devices to and from places.
