How do I allow one student extra time or access to a quiz without changing the quiz restrictions for all students?

Instructors can set "special access" conditions for students who need extra time on a quiz and/or need to take the quiz outside date restrictions set for a quiz. Repeat the process below for every student(s) who needs different availability and/or time permissions.

Alternatively, instructors can designate an accommodation of a modified time limit for a student which is then applied to every quiz within the course.

Add Special Access Conditions for a Student to a Quiz

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

  1. Click on "Assessment" in the navigation bar.
  2. Select "Quizzes" from the menu that opens.
  3. Click on the name of the quiz to edit.
  4. Click on "Availability Dates & Restrictions" in the right settings options panel to expand and display those menu options.
  5. Click "Manage Special Access"
  6. Fill in the bubble to "Allow selected users special access to this quiz" (this is the default option)
  7. Click "add users to special access" button
  8. On the special access page... set availability dates and/ times access for what should be different than the restrictions you have already set for the quiz overall. (If a field is left blank D2L will use the original setting for the quiz.)
  9. Set the number of users per page to show all students in course on same page if not already displayed.
  10. Check off the square bubble to the left of every student to whom you want to grant the special access you set in step 7.
  11. Click "Save" button.
  12. The name of the student(s) and the unique conditions for access will now appear at the bottom of the restrictions page.

  13. Click Save and Close to close the special access options window.

  14. Click Save and Close to save changes made to the quiz.

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

  1. Click on “Communication” in the navigation bar.

  2. Select “Classlist” from the menu that opens.
  3. Locate the student for whom you wish to designate an accommodation.

  4. Click the down arrow next to that student’s name.

  5. Select “Edit Accommodation” from the menu that opens.

  6. Fill in the checkbox to “Modify Time Limit”.

    1. Select the bubble for either “multiplier of original quiz time” or “Extra Time”.
    2. Depending upon your selection fill in the multiplier or the number of minutes.
  7. Click Save
