What types of audio and video files can I use in a PowerPoint presentation?

The audio and video file types PowerPoint can import and play varies by platform—Windows, Mac, iPhone/iPad, Android—and even from computer to computer.

If you are crafting a PowerPoint presentation that you will:

• present in person in a class, in a meeting, at a conference, etc.:
  Create your presentation on a laptop computer, the same laptop computer you will use to give your presentation, so you know your audio and video work.
  
  
• share with others (in D2L, by email, etc.) who will view your presentation on their own, on their own devices:
  Either:
  • Turn your presentation into a video you can share through MU Video.
  • Use only specific, recommended audio and video file types. (see below)

Recommended Audio/Video File Types

• for audio use: MP3 files (.mp3)
• for video use: MPEG-4 files (.mp4) with H.264 video and AAC audio

Only MP3 and MPEG-4 files will play in PowerPoint 2016 on all devices: Windows computers, Mac computers, iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices, and Android devices.
