I have my work in MU Video, but assignments wants me to upload a file. What can I do?

First, double-check the instructions for your assignment. Course instructors know MU Video doesn't fit with assignment's need for a file upload, so most course instructors provide details on how they would like you to submit items from MU Video.

If you've double-checked your course, and you still cannot find information on how you should submit your MU Video media, ask your course instructor.

Most often though, course instructors want you to:

  1. in the comments area of the submission either:
    • embed your MU Video item using Insert Stuff
    • link to your MU Video item
  2. upload a dummy file just to satisfy the assignments tool

Embedding from MU Video and Uploading a Dummy File

I. Preparing a Dummy File

Use Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, another word processor, or text editor to create and save an empty document. Or, optionally, include in your document information such as:

  • a link to your online assignment
  • text explaining that you've placed a link to, or an embed of, your assignment in the comments box

Just putting a link to your MU Video item in your dummy file is not sufficient though. You will also need to embed or link your media item in comments. For that, continue on below.

II. Embedding or Linking Your MU Video Item

Most instructors prefer or even require that you embed, not link, your MU Video media. Please carefully check the instructions in your course.

Embedding Your MU Video Item
  1. Click on "Assessment" in the navigation bar.
  2. Select "Assignments" from the menu that opens.
  3. In the list of assignments folders, locate the name of the folder to which you wish to submit your work.
  4. Click the name of the assignments folder.
  5. On the Submit Files page:
    1. Scroll down to the Comments box.
    2. Embed your MU Video item using Insert Stuff:
      1. Click the Insert Stuff () button.

Don't see the Insert Stuff button?

Please access assignments from the Assessment menu in the navbar.

The Insert Stuff button does not appear in the Comments box if you access an assignments folder from within the content tool.

      2. In the Insert Stuff window that opens:
        1. In the left-hand column, click "My Media (MU Video)".
        2. Locate your MU Video item by scrolling through your list of media or using the "Search Media" box.
        3. Click the Select button for your MU Video item.
        4. If D2L shows a "We blocked this for you" message:
          1. Check the "Always trust this URL" box.
          2. Click the Allow button.
        5. Click the "Insert" button.
Linking to Your MU Video Item
  1. Click on "Assessment" in the navigation bar.
  2. Select "Assignments" from the menu that opens.
  3. In the list of assignments folders, locate the name of the folder to which you wish to submit your work.
  4. Click the name of the assignments folder.
