What is Early Session Entry? How should I set it for my Collaborate session?

Quick recommendation: Set Early Entry value of at least 15 or 20 minutes.

"Early Session Entry" sets the number of minutes in advance of a session's start date and time that Collaborate will allow people to enter that session. The setting defaults to 15 minutes, but may be adjusted to any value from 15 minutes up to 60 minutes.

As an example, a Collaborate session with a start time of 3:30 PM and an early session entry of 20 would begin allowing people in at 3:10 PM.

A Collaborate session's start date and time, as well as that sessions early entry value, apply equally to everyone with access to the room: instructors, students, moderators, participants, and guests.

Setting "Early Session Entry" to at least 15 or 20 provides a reasonable amount of time for participants to get connected to Collaborate and, as appropriate, set up their microphones and speakers or dial in by telephone.

Students in D2L, and guests to Collaborate sessions from outside D2L, cannot see a Collaborate room's early room entry setting. They will only know how early they may enter a room if you tell them, so please share that information.
