What is Early Room Entry? How should I set it for my Collaborate room?

These instructions assume you are using Collaborate and not Collaborate Ultra.

Quick recommendation: Set an Early Room Entry value of at least 15 or 20 minutes.

"Early Room Entry" sets the number of minutes in advance of a room's start date and time that Collaborate will allow people to enter that room. The setting defaults to 15 minutes, but may be adjusted to any value from 0 minutes up to 1440 minutes (one day).

As an example, a Collaborate room with a start time of 3:30 PM and an early room entry of 20 would begin allowing people in at 3:10 PM.

A Collaborate room's start date and time, as well as that room's early room entry value, apply equally to everyone with access to the room: instructors, students, moderators, participants, and guests.

Setting "Early Room Entry" to at least 15 or 20 provides a reasonable amount of time for participants to get connected to Collaborate and, as appropriate, set up their microphones and speakers or dial in by telephone.

Students in D2L, and guests to Collaborate sessions from outside D2L, cannot see a Collaborate room's early room entry setting. They will only know how early they may enter a room if you tell them, so please share that information.
