How do I export materials from a course?

Note

Course exports do not contain any student work. Grades, quiz submissions, discussion posts, dropbox submissions, and other student work are not included in course exports.

Additionally custom course homepages and widgets are not included in course exports.

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

  1. Click on "" in the navigation bar.
  2. Click "Import / Export / Copy Components".
  3. Select the bubble for "Export Components".
  4. Leave checked the box for "Include course files in the export package".
  5. Click the "Start" button.
  6. Choose what materials to export.
    • If you want to export everything from the course:
      1. Check the "Select All Components" box.
    • If you want to export only materials from within certain tools (e.g. Content, Quizzes, Surveys):
      1. Check the box next each tool from which you want to export materials.
      2. If you want to export only certain materials from within a given tool, click the bubble next to "Select individual items to export" under that tool.
  7. Click the "Continue" button.
  8. If you did not choose "Select individual items to export" for any tools, skip this step. For each tool for which you chose ""Select individual items to export":
    1. Check the box to the left of each item you wish to export. Click the "+" controls, if available, to reveal individual items inside groupings.
    2. When you have checked the box for each item you want to copy, click the "Continue" button.
    3. Repeat as necessary for additional tools.
  9. Make sure "Include course files in the export package" is checked.
  10. Click the "Continue" button.
  11. Wait for D2L to gather together the materials in your course.
  12. Click the "Finish" button.
  13. Click the text, "Click here to download the export Zip package".
  14. Save ZIP file to a secure location, one in which you'll be able to find the file again. You may adjust the name of the file as you save it, but do not change the file extension from ".zip".
  15. Click the "Done" button.
