How do I save grades from a D2L course to my computer?

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

  1. Click on "Assessment" in the navigation bar.
  2. Select "Grades" from the menu that opens.
  3. In the Grades tool that opens, near the top of the page, click "Enter Grades".
  4. Click the large, grey, "Export" button.
  5. On the Export Grades page:
    1. Use the "Export Grade Items For" drop-down to choose whether to export grades for all students in this class or just for the students in one group:
      • All Students
        1. Select "All users".
        2. Click the "Apply" button.
      • Only Students in One Group
        1. Select "Groups".
        2. Click the "Apply" button.
        3. In the Groups drop-down that appears, select the group of students for which you wish to export grades.
        4. Click the "Apply button.
  6. Under "Grade Values":
    1. Make sure the box next to "Points grade" is checked.
    2. Optionally check the box next to "Grade Scheme" as well. Important: Including grade scheme data in the export will create a file that cannot be re-imported into D2L.
  7. Under User Details:
    1. Optionally check the boxes for any or all of "Last Name", "First Name", and "Email" to include those details in the export file. Username is always included in the export file.
    2. Under Choose Grades to Export:
    3. Use the checkboxes to select which columns from Grades to include in the export file.
      • All Columns
        1. Locate the checkbox sitting by itself, without a label, above the grey and blue rows of the list.
        2. Check that box.
      • Only Certain Columns
        1. In the blue and grey list of column names, check the box of each item you wish to include in the export file.
        2. Uncheck the box of each item you do not wish to include in the export file.
    4. Choose the format of the export file:
      • To export an Excel file: Click the "Export to Excel" button at the bottom of the page.
      • To export a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file: Click the "Export to CSV" button at the bottom of the page.
    5. In the Export Grades window that opens:
      1. Click the link to your grades export file.
      2. Save the file to a secure location in which you'll be able to find the file in the future.
        • If your computer automatically opens the file in Excel, Numbers, or another program, use that program to save the file.
        • If your web browser asks you what you would like to do with the file, choose to save it.
      3. Click the "Close" button. The Export Grades window will close.
    6. Back on the main Export Grades page, at the bottom of the page, click the "Cancel" button.
