How do I create a new Blackboard Collaborate room?

You will not be able to access Collaborate or Collaborate Ultra after June 30, 2018.

PASSHE's contract with Blackboard, Inc. for Collaborate and Collaborate Ultra ends on June 30, 2018. After June 30, 2018, you will not be able to access Collaborate rooms, Collaborate Ultra rooms, or any archived recordings you have in Collaborate or Collaborate Ultra.

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

These instructions assume you are using Collaborate and not Collaborate Ultra.

  1. Access Collaborate.
  2. Click the "New Room" button.
  3. In the Name field, type a name for your room.
    1. Do not include any special characters (&%$) in the name field
  4. Leave "Service Provider" set to "Collaborate".
  5. Leave "Account Name" set to "Collaborate".
  6. (optional) In the Description box, enter information on the purpose of this room.
  7. Set "Room Visibility" to either:
    • Restricted Room - Choose only for rooms that should be available to a certain subset of people within the class. Do not choose "Restricted" for rooms that will be used by the entire class.
    • Public Room - (Recommended) Choose for any room that should be available to the entire class. "Public" does not open the room to the world.
  8. Set the start date and time to when the room should first be available to participants. The start date and time must be:
    • in the future
    • on the quarter hour (:00, :15, :30, :45)
  9. Set the end date and time to when the room should close to participants. The end date and time must be:
    • further into the future than the start date and time
    • on the quarter hour (:00, :15, :30, :45)
  10. (optional) Adjust the Advanced Properties of the room:
    • Attendees raise their hand on entry

    • All attendees join as Moderators

    • Participants have unrestricted access to resources

    • Moderators can view all private chats

    • Early Room Entry (in minutes)
    • Archive Mode
  11. (optional) Choose to send an email notification to participants.
  12. For a Restricted room only, add attendees:
    1. Click the "Add Attendees" button.
    2. Select people to add:
      • Use the Search box to search for people by name.
      • Browse for individual people on the Users tab.
      • Browse for existing groups and sections using the Groups/Sections tab.
    3. Click the Add button.
  13. Click the Save button.
