After copying course materials from another D2L course shell, must I do anything with Collaborate links within those materials?
These instructions assume you are using Collaborate and not Collaborate Ultra.
Not sure which Collaborate you are using? Check out our comparison page.
Yes. If you have copied any materials from another D2L course shell, and those materials include any links to Collaborate rooms or Collaborate archives, you need to update or delete those links.
When you copy materials from one D2L course to another, D2L tries to automatically update all the links in those materials so that the copied links in the new course correctly point to the copied materials in the new course. However, this automatic process of updating links does not work with Collaborate rooms or session archives.
What happens if I don't?
Most likely, D2L will block your students from following the copied links. Your students will see an error message instead of entering the linked Collaborate room or seeing the linked Collaborate archive.
Because D2L cannot automatically update Collaborate links during the copy components process, Collaborate links in the new course are left pointing to Collaborate rooms and session archives in the old course. If you're still enrolled in both courses, the links will work fine for you. Your students though, and anyone else who isn't enrolled in both courses, will not be able to follow the links.
