How can I set my connection speed?

While Connecting to a Session

As Blackboard Collaborate starts up, and connects you to your session, it may ask you to choose a connection speed. Choose the appropriate speed.

If you check the box for "Don't show this dialog again", Collaborate won't ask your connection speed for that computer again—unless Collaborate suspects you're connecting from a new location. Each time you change locations, Collaborate will ask again because your new location may require a different connection speed.

During a Session

While you're in a Collaborate session, you can change your connection speed:

  1. Open the Edit menu.
  2. Choose "Preferences..."
  3. In the left column of the Preferences window that opens, scroll down to " Session".
  4. Under " Session", choose "Connection".
  5. Change "Connection Speed" as necessary to an appropriate speed.
  6. Leave "Prompt for speed" set to "When Location Changes".

Which connection speed should I pick?

What connection speed you should choose depends upon how your computer or tablet is connected to the Internet.

If your computer or tablet is connected to:

choose "Wireless (300 Kbps)"
a wire to a DSL or cable modem
choose "Cable/DSL"
a wire to a school or work network
choose "LAN"
3G or LTE cellular
choose "Wireless (300 Kbps)"
choose "ISDN"
a dial-up modem
choose, as appropriate:
"56 Kbps Dialup"
"33.6 Kbps Dialup"
"28.8 Kbps Dialup"

What if I don't know how my computer or tablet connects to the Internet?

Try "Wireless (300 Kbps)". That speed should work over many Internet connections.
