 How do I add everyone from a D2L class to a group?

These instructions assume you have already logged in to D2L and entered the course in which you wish to work.

  1. Click on "Assessment" in the navigation bar.
  2. Select "Grades" from the menu that opens.
  3. Click "Enter Grades" to make sure you're in that mode, not Manage Grades mode.
  4. Below "Enter Grades", click the "Export" button.
  5. Set "Export Grade Items For" to "All users".
  6. Click the "Apply" button.
  7. Under "Grade Values", uncheck all the boxes.
  8. Under "User Details", check the boxes for:
    • Last Name
    • First Name
    • Email
  9. Under "Choose Grades to Export", deselect all grade items:
    1. Check the topmost box, the one above the grey column header bar. Checking this box will check all the boxes below it too.
    2. Uncheck the same, topmost box. Unchecking this box will uncheck all the boxes below it too.
  10. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  11. Click the "Export to Excel" button.
  12. In the Export Grades window that opens, click the link.
  13. If your web browser does not automatically open the export file in Excel, open the file in Excel manually.
  14. In Excel:
    1. Delete the Username column.
    2. Move the Email column to be column A.
    3. Move the First Name column to be column B.
    4. Leave the Last Name column as column C.
    5. Delete the row containing the column headers (Email, First Name, Last Name).
    6. Use "Save As" to save the file in Comma Separated Value (CSV) format.
    7. If Excel warns you features may not work or may be removed, click the "Continue" button.
  15. Return to your web browser.
  16. Close the small Export Grades window you used to download the export file.
  17. Back in D2L, click "Communication" in the navigation bar.
  18. Select "Wiggio" from the menu that opens.
  19. Wait for Wiggio to open.
  20. In the Groups column, on the left, locate the name of the group to which you wish to add members.
  21. Click on that group name.
  22. In the center column, click the "Add New Members" button.
  23. Click the word "spreadsheet".
  24. In the "Invite from CSV" window that opens:
    1. Click the "Choose File" button.
    2. Locate, select, and open the CSV file you created above.
    3. Click the "Submit" button.
  25. In the Import Status window that opens, click the "Ok" button.
  26. (optional) In the Message box, enter a message to go out with your invitation.
  27. Click the "Invite" button.
