Blog from September, 2015

Due to scheduled database maintenance on the REEF Polling servers, REEF Polling will be unavailable from 9 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, September 26, to 2 a.m. Eastern, on Sunday, September 27. REEF Polling will be completely unavailable during this database maintenance period.

The D2L system will not be affected by the REEF Polling database maintenance. Neither will the non-REEF portions of i>clicker be affected. Only REEF Polling—which can be used independently of, or in combination with, D2L and/or i>clicker—will be affected and unavailable.

Faculty:

You may now use MAX to request Winter and Spring 2016 D2L course shells.

  • The instructions for requesting courses are available in the D2L Resources wiki.
  • As you make a course request in MAX, the D2L Course tool there will present you with a default name for your new shell, and at that time, you can adjust the name as you like. If you accidentally skip that renaming opportunity, or decide upon a better name later, you can rename your course shell right from within D2L.
  • If you want to combine two or more sections (CRNs) into a single D2L course shell, please use the combined course request option in MAX's D2L Course tool. Attempting to combine shells after they have been created will take days away from the time you have to work on building your course and may force you to re-upload or recreate course materials.
  • While the D2L Course tool in MAX won't let you and a colleague combine your sections into one D2L course shell, the help desk can assist with that. So, if you want to combine sections with a colleague, please do not request independent shells using MAX. Instead contact the help desk with your request.
  • If you have any questions, please contact the help desk.

Groups

  • The enrollment type "# of Groups of #- Self Enrollment" has been renamed "# of Groups, Capacity of #- Self Enrollment".
  • Self enrollment type groups have new features including an option to Set Self Enrollment Expiry Date.
  • When creating or editing a group category, a "Group Prefix" field is now present.

Resolved

The login error message problem was resolved by 10:52 a.m. Eastern on Friday, September 11, 2015. Logins using the "Login" and "InCommon Login" buttons are working normally.

D2L, Inc. technicians corrected the problem by updating some of the authentication configuration files on D2L servers.

Error Message on Attempted Login

At this time, attempting to log in to D2L using either the "Login" or "InCommon Login" button fails. Both buttons lead to an "Internal Error" message page rather than a normal login page.

Millersville Information Technologies staff notified D2L, Inc. of this problem, and D2L technicians are investigating.

For now:

  • If you are a Millersville University student, faculty, or staff member, please log in using the "Guest Login" link and your normal username and password.
  • If you are a Kutztown University student, the "Guest Login" link will not work for you. Please wait while Millersville Information Technologies staff work with D2L to resolve this issue.

Due to scheduled maintenance at the Turnitin data center, all Turnitin services, including Plagiarism Detection and GradeMark, will be unavailable from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern, on Saturday, 19 September 2015. The Turnitin company recommend instructors modify assignment due dates to fall before, or several hours after, the maintenance period.

The D2L system itself will not be affected by the Turnitin maintenance period. Only the Turnitin services, available from within D2L's dropbox tool, will be affected and made unavailable.
