At this time, assignments submitted to dropbox folders in Desire2Learn are not being sent to Turnitin for processing. A filesystem permission problem in the storage servers at Desire2Learn's data center is blocking the files from being sent.

No submissions to dropbox folders have been lost, and once the filesystem permission problem is corrected, Desire2Learn staff will push the entire backlog of dropbox submissions to Turnitin for processing.

Desire2Learn staff have created and tested a fix for the filesystem permission problem. Because the storage servers must be taken offline for several minutes during the application of the fix, Desire2Learn are working with Millersville University, the other PASSHE universities, and other Desire2Learn clients to schedule the required, brief downtime.

Updates

Monday, 13 May 2013, 1:59 p.m.

Desire2Learn have put the new utility application server into the server pool, and Turnitin has begun processing files in the submission queue. Due to the size of the queue, it will take some time for all the files in the queue to be processed.

Desire2Learn have traced the true cause of the Turnitin problem to a utility application server within the pool of servers that serve Millersville University and the rest of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. A problem with the underlying operating system or application support frameworks has been preventing proper communication between the utility application server and other servers within the server pool. The Turnitin problem is one symptom of the communication issue.

Desire2Learn staff are setting up a new utility application server to replace the one suffering communication problems.

Desire2Learn's fix for the filesystem problem failed; therefore, Turnitin submissions are still not processing.

Desire2Learn staff have planned another fix, and Information Technologies staff from Millersville University and PASSHE are awaiting details on this.

Friday, 10 May 2013

Desire2Learn will implement a fix for the filesystem permission problem this Sunday, May 12, during the scheduled maintenance period. At the end of the maintenance period, dropbox submissions will be sent to Turnitin for processing automatically. Submissions will be sent to, and processed by, Turnitin in the order in which those submissions were made to the dropbox folders.
