Certain tools built into Desire2Learn, as well as some third-party tools used with Desire2Learn, will be going away in the future. Those tools are listed below. If you have questions, please contact the IT Help Center.
Articles, Journal, Personal Homepages
In versions of Desire2Learn prior to version 10, these tools were built in; however, Desire2Learn has discontinued work on them and removed them from version 10.
Important: If you have used any of these tools, please copy your data out of them prior to version 10 upgrade.
Desire2Learn recommends using the Content tool in place of the Articles tool, the Discussions tool in place of the Journal tool, and the Locker in place of the Personal Homepage tool. If you'd like help with the transition, please contact the IT Help Center with that request.
Please note that course homepages are still supported in version 10 of Desire2Learn and will not be removed during the upgrade.
Wimba Classroom, a third-party, synchronous communication tool, will be available for the entire Spring 2013 semester, but will be removed afterwards. The company that made Wimba Classroom was purchased by Blackboard in 2010, and Blackboard has discontinued the product.
Collaborate, a new synchronous communication tool, is available within Desire2Learn now and offers some improvements over Wimba Classroom such as improved audio and video quality, tablet support, and better integration with the Desire2Learn system. To request information and training on Collaborate, please contact the IT Help Center.
Important: Prior the end of the Spring 2013 semester, please save locally any archived Wimba Classroom sessions you wish to keep.
Learning Objects Campus Pack
Campus Pack, a third-party system that provides tools to create class-specific wikis, blogs, and podcasts, will be available for the entire Spring 2013 semester, but will be removed afterwards. If you would like to request assistance with identifying and transitioning to substitute tools, please contact the IT Help Center.
Important: Prior the end of the Spring 2013 semester, please save locally any Campus Pack materials you wish to keep.
Please note that the Campus Pack's blog tool is entirely separate from the Blog tool built into Desire2Learn. Desire2Learn's built-in Blog tool will remain available.
